Including the ones whose honest answer costs us the job.
“Is my house even eligible?” Detached, semi-detached, row or townhouse (not stacked), or a mobile home on a permanent foundation. Owned by you. Occupied more than six months. An active Enbridge Gas account if you heat with a gas furnace or boiler; otherwise connected to the Ontario electricity grid. And the house must not have had an attic rebate before, by you or by anyone who owned it earlier.
If any of those is a no, the attic stream will not pay, and no contractor can change that.
It depends on the square footage, the existing depth, the access and whether anything has to come out first. We do not publish a price per square foot because the number that matters is on your quote after somebody has been up there. What we will do is give you the figure and the rebate arithmetic on one page, before you commit to anything.
No. The programme pays the homeowner directly, after the work. Be careful with any contractor who offers to discount the invoice by the rebate amount — you are then relying on them to have got the tier right.
Not for the attic on its own. The attic stream exists specifically to remove that step. You do need one for walls, basements, windows and the rest, because those are on the assessment pathway.
Less than the internet claims and more than nothing. The honest answer is that savings depend on your fuel, your thermostat, the rest of your envelope and the winter. Anyone quoting you a percentage without measuring your house is guessing.
No. The attic stream requires installation by a participating contractor.
Then your tier depends on the depth that is there now. Ten-year-old work often measures lower than it did on the day, because blown material settles. We measure rather than assume.
Yes, and you should treat that as a reason to check rather than a reason to hurry. Ask any contractor quoting you for the attic stream to confirm they are on the programme list, and confirm it with the programme if you want to. It is a fair question and we are not offended by it.
Then the deadline moves and we will say so on this site the week it happens. It was extended once already, from November 2025. Nobody in this trade knows whether it will happen again.
